Hiring the right contractor

There will come a time when you need to hire a plumber or electrician.  Before you call that contractor with the funny commercial, catchy tune, or have seen their vans on the road, do you homework first.  Hiring the wrong contractor can end up costing you a lot of time and money.

At Oahu Surf II, we worked with many contractors and can recommend some to you. These contractors are very familiar with the construction and layout of our building. Here are our recommendations based on our experience and end result while working with them.

If you need a different type of contractor or prefer to hire someone else, be sure to check that they are licensed and insured. House Rule VIII.D.2 requires this for remodeling and renovations. You can check out a business by visiting the following portal:

DCCA Hawaii Business Check
https://cca.hawaii.gov/business-check

When reviewing a business, ensure that their status is current, valid & in good standing. If it’s not, find another contractor. The DCCA portal also allows you to check the complaint history of the business.

Additionally, you can go further in checking a business by visiting the Better Business Bureau:

BBB Hawaii

An “A” Rating provides additional peace of mind that you made a good choice.

Thank you for your taking the time to read this post. May there be clear skies (and dry ceilings) ahead.
